Omourtag Petkov is an attorney qualified to practice in New York and Bulgaria and a partner at the law firm of Djingov, Gouginski, Kyutchukov and Velichkov, one of the largest and most prominent law firms on the Bulgarian market. At the firm, Omourtag advises large foreign clients on joint ventures, public procurement and concessions, financing and restructuring matters, and international contracts issues. Omourtag is also Chairman of the British Bulgarian Business Association (“BBBA”), the bilateral British chamber of commerce in Bulgaria.
Omourtag has special interest and has done extensive research in the field of freedom from regulatory oversight for the business, in particular with respect to e-commerce, blockchain, and cryptocurrencies. In his capacity as Chairman of BBBA, Omourtag has been very active and took a lead role in various policy making and legislative reform efforts (jointly with many of the other foreign and bilateral chambers in Bulgaria), and has been invited as panellist at various conferences, most recently for a panel at the international “NextBlock Conference: Evolution of Money”, which took place in last September in Sofia.
Omourtag has received his legal education in France and in the United States and before joining the law firm he acquired a diverse international experience working as an intern at an international organization in The Hague, as a legal researcher in France, as a lecturer in law in Bulgaria and as an expert at the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
